Dogs don’t exist just to look cute and induce “awws” from people. They can be taught to do jobs, and sometimes, dogs are given jobs that only they can do. We’ve seen pups become mayors, and we’ve also seen them become shop managers. It seems that every now and then, they land themselves unusual jobs.
Two years ago, a cute little doggo named “Maru” was assigned as manager of the day at a department store in Tokyo, Japan. Maru is not just some random pupper that was chosen for the position. He is actually an internet celebrity. If you visit his official Instagram account, you will find that he has over 2.5 million followers.
Given the fact that he has quite a huge following, you can probably tell that this was a marketing effort by Isetan, the department store company that originated from Japan. Also, 2018 was the Year of the Dog, so they thought that it was only fitting to feature a popular doggo to start the year off.
The Isetan Shinjuku branch’s first 100 visitors received a specialized dog-shaped card with Maru’s photo on it. The department store also held a meet and greet session with some of the pup’s fans. When Maru and his human, Shinjiro Ono, walked onto the stage, the crowd buzzed with excitement.
Of course, Maru wasn’t expected to crunch numbers in the manager’s office, nor was he asked to supervise his underlings, but Isetan wanted to make sure he looked the part. The Shiba Inu wore a bow tie, and he sat on a manager’s chair, sort of. Maru first sat on it, and then he actually tried to take a nap on the comfy office chair.
Maru’s personality is perfectly balanced. He isn’t hyperactive like some dogs, but he also has the energy to play fetch and run around in an open field if he’s in the mood. Some say that this pupper is the perfect pet, and we can totally understand why they say that.
