Chico, a Husky-German Shepherd mix, lives with his dad Edward Alvarado in Odessa, Texas. He spends his entire day playing fetch, eating, sleeping, and playing again. He easily gets bored so he always feels the need to do something.
One early morning, however, he woke up from his deep sleep and decided he wanted to go out. So without his dad knowing, he snuck out of their house and ran off. He strolled for about a mile and ended up at the Odessa Police Department (OPD).
Police officers on duty were awestruck when they realized that a furry four-legged guest came to visit them. They utterly had no clue where he came from or what he needed because they didn’t speak dog. So instead, they spent some time playing with him.
The cops agreed their visitor wasn’t a stray because he wore a collar. His tag, however, broke and probably fell off on the streets on his way to the station, so they didn’t know what number to call. Either way, they needed to find his owner so they called in animal control.
Chico knew that animal control means trouble. So to avoid any mess, he quietly slithered out of the station and disappeared. He walked back in the same direction he came from and made it home safely.
His dad had no idea what he was up to last night and only learned about his escapade the following morning when his photos circulated the internet. He became a celebrity all of a sudden. But because there was proof that he escaped, he surely got busted.
It’s possible that Chico went to OPD to check if they had any openings for a new K-9. It’s also probable that he wanted to report himself missing. Whatever the reason was, he certainly proved that’s he’s one clever and canny dog.
Edward dreamt of Chico being a guard dog. But when he realized his pup wanted nothing but to play and make friends with everyone, he stopped thinking about it. He still loves him, otherwise, and he wouldn’t exchange Chico for anything in this world.
