Dogs can be trained to do specific tricks and abilities. Dogs can show their interest in something that they would like to try and explore.
We have already seen dogs doing fantastic stuff in the past, and we are all amazed to see them do it!
There’s a dog who knows how to surf, and yes, she is a certified one!
Richochet, a female Golden Retriever, is a certified SURFice dog (surfing service dog). Ricochet is one of the original surfing dogs in the United States that started the dog surfing circuit. Aside from actively joining dog surfing competitions, Richochet is also a regular volunteer dog, helping individuals with disabilities to fulfill their dreams of riding a surfboard.
The most memorable surfing event that Ricochet had with people with disabilities was with Bellamy and Savannah Arterburn. The sisters are from Denver, Colorado, and are suffering from the same terminal illness called Friedreich’s ataxia. Friedreich’s ataxia is a debilitating and degenerative neuro-muscular disorder that, at present, has no cure. The sisters traveled to San Diego to surf with their favorite surfer dog, Ricochet.
The sisters’ family cannot afford to go on a trip to San Diego due to financial difficulties with their treatment. Dave, Ricochet’s water handler, learned about the sisters’ story, so he came up with a fundraiser hosted by Ricochet.
In less than 24 hours, Richochet’s fans donated 100,000 airline miles. Hotel Indigo sponsored a hotel room for the family to stay in San Diego. Cash donations poured in for their other expenses while having a great time with Ricochet.
Bellamy and Savannah remained strong and resilient despite all the hardships that they have undergone due to their illness. They know that they have a few time left on Earth, but they don’t seem to lose hope. They wanted to experience life at its fullest and do whatever they can while they’re alive.
Savannah and Bellamy took turns in riding the waves with Ricochet. The happiness in the sisters’ eyes was priceless. Spending a day with Ricochet empowered them so much. They have forgotten their illness even for a short time.

Ricochet did well too on the surfboard! She knows how to position himself so that the sisters won’t fall on the board while riding the waves. She is truly an expert!
Ricochet, continue to fulfill people with disabilities’ dream to surf!
