Some studies say dogs have a concept of time. Naturally, they don’t understand time the way we do, but they seem to have an idea of a time lapse. They also remember certain routines or regular patterns of activity during the day.
For example, they can tell if it’s time to eat their meal. They can also tell if it’s time to go out for a walk. And if you miss doing any of their daily activities, they’ll let you know they remember!
Dogs can likewise tell if you’ve been away for long periods. Whether you are away for a few hours or a few days or longer, they know and feel that you’ve been gone for quite some time—and they miss you.
This is how a pit bull named Cotton felt as he waited for the arrival of his human dad, who is a soldier. According to the soldier’s wife, her husband had been gone for two days for drill weekend, and their beloved pooch had missed him so much.
Cotton probably didn’t expect this was “how long 2 days could feel,” his human mom wrote on social media, where she also uploaded a video of Cotton welcoming dad home.
The video shows the excited rescue pit bull, who was deaf, standing by the door with the curtain draped over his head as he looked through the door’s glass panel. His eyes attentively scanned the outdoors for any sign of dad.
In the background, Cotton’s human mom asked, “Is that him?”
However, the dog looked like he wasn’t sure if it was dad. He kept watching by the door, not moving an inch, and looking intently outside.
A while later, Cotton seemed to feel that dad was about to come in. He left his post by the door for a few seconds, turned, and went right back to the glass panel. He pushed the curtain farther with his head so he could see more clearly.
Suddenly, Cotton’s tail began to wag excitedly. Dad was home!
Cotton couldn’t hide his excitement when the door opened and his soldier dad came in. He was all over his dad, jumping at him and playing with him.
He was so happy to see his dad after two long days. Finally, the wait was over.
