German Shepherds are known to being fit and active. We most often see them together with authorities, hunting the bad guys, doing heroic tasks. Most of the time, we get intimidated by them, but the truth is, they are fun to be with, just like any other dog breed.
On the other hand, Tony, the German Shepherd dog, weighed around 150 pounds. On this note, he needed to lose a third of his body weight to be fit and healthy again. Overweight dogs tend to acquire heart problems and hip and joint issues.
Tony was a stray, was adopted, and then returned, and losing hope that he would finally experience a human’s love. Thankfully, he found his one true love with his owner, Lee, who adopted him and took care of him. He saw Tony in serious need of help, as the dog could not even go up the stairs.
His owner, Lee, adores dogs bigtime! His family of dogs consists of eight (8) rescues, and Tony then makes nine. Lee is on the mission to make Tony healthy and gain confidence once again.
Tony could not get himself up, could not catch a treat, and the affection people gave him felt something new. Lee believed in Tony, while the poor dog did not even believe in himself. He motivated him day by day, one step at a time. They went for dog walks with the pack, exercise, and just really encouraging him to do better each day that passed.
Tony has finally gained the confidence back day after day, joining the pack with their daily routine. Each day they do, he kept losing weight enough to get him where he needs to be – 50 pounds off! Also, Tony found a best friend in Lillie!
It was indeed a long journey, but with Lee’s motivation to Tony, helping him get through each day, swarming him with so much love and care, Tony was finally a happy and healthy dog!
