Kevin Coachman and his German Shepherd, Lucca, are always by each other’s side. The man from Illinois never goes anywhere without his trusted dog because Lucca is his guide dog.
Kevin got involved in a carjacking and was shot numerous times. Fortunately for him, he survived. But, he lost his eyesight in the process.
Being blind is very difficult for him. As it would be for everyone else. The transition was rough, and it didn’t just impede his movements, but it was also mentally taxing.
Thankfully, a nonprofit organization named Seeing Eye Foundation introduced him to Lucca. From then on, he has relied on his faithful dog to help him out.
Stolen from the yard
Kevin let Lucca out to their fenced-in yard after spending the day doing some errands. He then went back to their house to get his pooch some food and water. But when he came back after a few short minutes, he discovered that his guide dog was gone.
He called out repeatedly, but no answer came back. He was sure that the gate was closed, so there was no way for the dog to escape. Plus, Lucca was never known to run away. Kevin was certain that someone stole his best friend.
Looking for Lucca
Kevin was devastated, and people were shocked that someone would steal a blind man’s guide dog. News stories came out to inform everyone to be on the lookout for Lucca. The blind dog owner even made a touching video, pleading for the thieves to return his dog. Or at the very least, take really good care of his beloved pooch.
People kept sharing the video, hoping that the guide dog would be returned to his owner.
With all the support coming from the community, one of the thieves, a teenager, felt guilty and remorseful. He decided to return Lucca and called Kevin. Soon, the guide dog was back by his owner’s side.
The teen said that he realized that what he and his friends did was terrible and apologized for all the trouble that he caused. Kevin accepted his apology and said later on that his faith in people was renewed.
