Meet Edgar, and he lives in Waynesboro, PA. Edgar was recently brought to the local Humane Society animal shelter. Edgar is a 4-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound. Edgar has spent a lot of his time out on the street and homeless. A shelter in West Virginia even tagged Edgar as an unadoptable pet.
The most recent shelter that Edgar lived in was the same shelter where Melissa Lambert takes her daughters to play. Melissa allows her daughters to play and be around dogs, but she wasn’t sold on getting a dog to live with them.
Melissa was not considering adopting a dog. She thought that having a dog would add to her daily tasks. But when Melissa met Edgar, she fell in love with the dog and decided to adopt him later on. Of course, the kids were thrilled having Edgar as a new family member.
Edgar is not your typical dog. A rat or cat could run around him, and he would lie on the ground – without a care in the world. But Edgar proved to be very useful when it came down to protecting his family.
On April 28, some broke in the Lamberts’ home. That person used one of the windows from the first floor of the house. Luckily, Edgar was there to scare off their unwelcomed guest.
The police caught Thomas Dewald the following day. He admitted to entering the Lamberts’ home. He also admitted to stalking the neighborhood in search of young children to abduct. Apart from a case for entering Lambert’s house, Dewald was also charged for abducting a 4-year old girl on April 25. Luckily, that young girl was able to escape the next day.
Dewald was on the hunt for new victims and has chosen the Lamber children as his new target. On April 28, the Lamberts came home exhausted from attending an out-of-town funeral. Dad locked everything downstairs and went to sleep. A couple of hours later, Dad heard Edgar, who sleeps in the children’s room, barking angrily. He went to see what was going on and tried to calm the dog, but Edgar wouldn’t stop. Then he heard footsteps down at their kitchen.
When he went to check, he found one of the windows and his kitchen door is open. He rushed to check on his kids and had them stay with Melissa. Both parents were then armed with kitchen knives. He checked each room in the house while calling 911. Edgar was with him as he checked.
When the police arrived at Lambert’s house, they did another sweep of the house to make sure that the family is safe. While the police were checking the house, Edgar just laid on the floor. He was back to his usual relaxed self. Talking to the police, Thom remembered that Edgar also barked aggressively on April 25th, the night that the other girl was abducted. The girl lives just a few houses away from the Lamberts’ home.
The Lambert family couldn’t be more thankful that Edgar was there to scare off Dewald. Thanks to Edgar, all three Lambert children are safe.
