When homeless dogs are turned over to animal shelters or rescue organizations, they’re given baths and immediately sent to the veterinarian. The reason why this is done is so the shelter staff or organization volunteers know what they’re up against. The results of the check-up serve as their guide on how to go about taking care of the new member of their canine community.
Once they’ve planned out the dog’s diet and daily routine, they then proceed to give the dog a makeover. Some dogs get to skip this step, but for others, it’s non-negotiable. Such was the case for Simon, a rescued Shih Tzu.
6.5 pounds lighter
The volunteers could barely see Simon when he entered the doors of KC Project, a non-profit organization in Kansas City. His tiny frame was hidden under a huge mountain of matted fur. It was so bad, he looked like a living pile of dirty rags.
After taking a close look at Simon’s fur situation, the volunteers planned out his makeover. They wanted to make sure he’d feel comfortable during the process, so they discussed every single detail. When they had everything down pat, they grabbed their cutting tools and started ridding the rescued Shih Tzu of his matted fur.
Simon looked almost unrecognizable after his makeover. He was a lot lighter too! The volunteers weighed all the fur they removed, and they were shocked when they saw the numbers on the scale. It was 6.5 pounds heavy!
Instant TikTok sensation
The volunteers filmed Simon’s transformation and uploaded it on TikTok. They figured that sharing his story might encourage everyone to adopt instead of shop, donate to animal rescue organizations, and be kind to all animals. Simon’s video went viral in less than a week, and it has over 60,000 views as of writing. If you’re curious to see Simon’s makeover, watch the clip below:
