Can dogs smile? It appears they can, as demonstrated by a Chihuahua mix named Jasper. However, his smile isn’t caused by happy emotions but by a rare condition that causes his facial muscles to pull back.
While Jasper seems like a happy dog, he’s actually living in a shelter, waiting for his forever home.

The pup who can’t stop smiling
A rescue center called The Front Street Animal Shelter introduced Jasper in a Facebook post with an accompanying video clip. The said video explained that Jasper’s condition was still unknown. And while the perpetual smile might make him look cute and happy at times, it was actually uncomfortable, even causing involuntary twitches. Moreover, Jasper was suffering from kidney problems.
Once Jasper received the medical treatment that he needed, the shelter would then find him a new family. The Front Street Animal Shelter also said in the video that Jasper was good with other animals and that he loved everyone that he met.

Jasper’s video currently has 22K views, 2K reactions, and over a hundred comments. A lot of people were already inquiring about the cost of Jasper’s medical treatment. Some even said that they had donated and even shared the video to spread the word.
Some comments were beautiful and inspiring words dedicated to Jasper. One said that the pup was so adorable. Others were already offering to foster the smiling dog.
But what was more heartwarming was the fact that a lot of people were also asking if they could adopt Jasper. There was even an enthusiastic commenter who was already asking how the adoption process would go.
The shelter said in the video that they were determined to give the poor pup a good life. The shelter also started raising funds for the pup and other animals under their care via a GoFundMe campaign. Thankfully, the shelter was only $71 short of its $35,000 goal!
