Doctors are certified helpers. They help a lot of people and animals too. Some doctors though put a little more effort than the others. A good example is the veterinarian Mike Ferrell, who decided to dress up for his anxious patient Rupert.
Rupert was a very anxious and guarded dog. Sonya Schiff, her owner, thinks it is from his past experiences and from numerous transfers from one home to another. Sonya even mentions how it took a year before Rupert was completely at ease with her. And now he likes her around he gets very anxious when she is not.
Everything was going well with Sonya and Rupert. Rupert has a leg problem though which had gotten worse over time. Sonya knew they need to do something about it. She decided to bring him to Davies Veterinary Specialists located at Hitchin, Hertfordshire. That was Mike’s first encounter with Rupert, which didn’t turn out well for he growled at him and he couldn’t get close enough to the dog to examine him thoroughly.
Mike advised that Rupert will be needing surgery for his leg and must stay overnight afterward. One problem though was Rupert’s separation anxiety. Sonya though that bringing a piece of her clothing might help, but when she was looking for a cloth, he found a mouse onesie Rupert loves and thought it might be more effective than any of her clothing.
When they got to the clinic, he told Mike about her idea. To her surprise, the doctor agreed to wear the onesie to see if it will help calming Rupert and get through the surgery. So, the doctor put on the onesie and slowly approached Rupert. To everyone’s surprise, Rupert loves him. He didn’t growl or bark at him. And with that Mike was able to perform the surgery successfully.
It was amazing how dedicated Doctor Mike Ferrell was. He did something unimaginable just to help a patient. Now it might be silly for some, but he did what he had to do.
