Losing a doggo is just like losing a child because that’s basically how dog parents see their fur babies. It creates a lot of unwanted heartache and stress, but this problem can be avoided through microchipping. It’s not a silver bullet to this problem, but it definitely helps in most cases.
Just like the case of Amy Jones and Dibs. The dog parent adopted the Chow Chow and Golden Retriever mix eight years ago. But not long after she gave Dibs a home, the pooch ran away. Amy is a bartender so she had to work late nights, so she always left Dibs by himself in their backyard.
Unfortunately, one of those nights, Dibs got bored and dug a tunnel under the fence and escaped. Amy, just like any other dog parent, put up flyers and checked animal shelters from time to time. Unfortunately, there were no leads regarding Dibs, and after searching for him for a long time, Amy had no choice but to give up.
Amy adopted another doggo, Frank the Chiweenie. But two years after adopting Frank, the dog mom received an important phone call. It was Jennifer Olohan from the Austin Animal Center in Texas, and she has good news. They found Dibs!
Upon hearing this, Amy couldn’t help but bawl like a baby. For sure, she never would’ve thought that she will ever see him again. But because of the microchip that was implanted in the pooch when Amy got him, this unlikely reunion was made possible.
Jennifer shared that this reunion story really stood out because of how long Amy and Dibs had been apart. The runaway doggo is now 14 years old and his health is failing. So Amy’s goal is just to make him happy while he is still around. The elated dog mom is hoping that their story would remind dog parents about the importance of microchipping.
